Matthew Macklin, who fought Gennady Golovkin in 2013, went to help Kell Brook in his pre-fight preparations

Kell Brook must be wary of Gennady Golovkin's supreme balance and use of angles, says one of the Kazakh's former victims Matthew Macklin.

'Mack the Knife' (35-6-KO22) fought 'GGG' back in July 2013; suffering a third-round knockout in Connecticut having already run world champions Felix Sturm and Sergio Martinez close.

As Brook (36-0-KO25) prepares to step up from welterweight to challenge the WBA Super, WBC and IBF world middleweight king, Macklin dropped by the gym to offer some advice on which shots to be most wary of.

Macklin said: "I fought Golovkin and didn't fare too well but hopefully I can pass on a few pointers to Kell and hopefully he can do a much better job.

"He throws his left hook very long and almost scoops it around. It's almost amateur. You can't allow him to read you. He's a very intelligent fighter - not just a puncher.

"He never caught me with a big shot to the head but his jab is a ramrod. Kell also has a great jab so I'm curious to know how that's going to go in the fight."
