Golovkin vs Brook: Kid Galahad confident of landing Brook bet
Sunday 4 September 2016 20:32, UK
Kid Galahad expects his training partner Kell Brook to defeat Gennady Golovkin next weekend and he has put his money where his mouth is.
Galahad will also be fighting on the bill at the O2 Arena on Saturday when he takes on Italian Emiliano Salvini in a super-bantamweight contest and he has predicted a double celebration for the two Sheffield-based fighters.
IBF welterweight champion Brook has stepped up two weights to take on WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight champion Golovkin, but Galahad does not believe that will be a problem for the Briton and has put £500 on him to win.
"People think I am crazy but I put money on when Tyson Fury beat [Wladimir] Klitshcko," Galahad told Sky Sports News HQ.
"I tell people 'one thing I do know is my boxing' and I can't see GGG beating Kell Brook. Kell Brook is a better version of GGG - he is better in every department.
"I have trained with Kell for a very long time. I have seen him get in the ring and box heavyweights and put them to sleep. I have seen him take a shot off a heavyweight and not even buckle, so you are going to see a star."
Brook, 30, is around a 9/2 chance to overcome 34-year-old Kazakhstani Golovkin, who is unbeaten in 35 fights, but Galahad remains confident of an upset.
He said: "I have known Kell for a very long time and I know how hard he has trained for this fight. I personally can't see him getting beat. He's a cut [above] the rest of the fighters - he is going to shock the world.
"He just needs to stick to the gameplan, do what he does best, stay there, box, keep out of Golovkin's range and come home with a victory.
"Kell needs challenges. He is one of those kids - the better the challenge, the better Kell Brook you will see. No one has seen the best Kell Brook and on September 10 you are going to see Kell Brook at his best, devastatingly at 10 stone.
"All the way through this camp he has been happy, he is not cutting down to 147 (welterweight) and he is looking in tremendous shape. He is a big welterweight now and he is probably a natural middleweight.
"He is always happy, he is lovely to be around and he just can't wait to get in there and shock the world."
Galahad is back in action after serving a six-month doping ban but he insists that episode of his career is now behind him and he is happy to put his own unbeaten record on the line against Salvini.
"At the end of the day things happen in life and you just have to get over it," he added. "I just kept on training, kept on doing what I do best - training, boxing and learning my craft.
"Kell would ring me every day and he always promised when I made a comeback he would put me on his shows, and obviously he has.
"Salvini is very tricky and he has never been knocked out, although he has been stopped a few times. He can give you nightmares in the ring as he is very hard to hit.
"It's going to be a hard night's work [but] I believe I have got the skills and the ability to go in there and do a devastating performance on this kid and leave there with a victory."
