Brook vs Spence Jr: Shawn Porter is planning to watch Kell Brook and Errol Spence Jr in Sheffield
Thursday 18 May 2017 13:10, UK
Shawn Porter will be watching Kell Brook's IBF title fight with Errol Spence Jr from ringside and would welcome a fight against the winner.
'The Special One' claimed the IBF belt with a points win over Porter in 2014 and will make the fourth defence against mandatory challenger Spence Jr in Sheffield on May 27, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Porter is travelling over from America to watch the welterweight battle after propelling himself back into title contention with last month's stoppage win over Andre Berto.
He exclusively told Sky Sports: "My Dad and I will be headed over there tomorrow and I would love to see how we are able to interact with all of England and Kell Brook as well. We really didn't speak too much, before or after our fight."
Spence Jr is considered one of the rising stars in the US, with 18 stoppages in 21 wins, and has received the backing of his fellow countryman, but Brook will earn Porter's praise if he retains the title.
"It's going to be a really good fight," said Porter. "Both fighters have what it takes to win, I really can't pick who is going to win the fight. It's probably a biased opinion of mine, but I would like to see Errol Spence win the fight.
"Kell Brook is already the champion and I think beating a young lion like Errol Spence would only confirm that he is a worthy champion out there."
Porter admits his top priority is a second fight with WBC and WBA champion Keith Thurman, who narrowly defeated him on points last summer, but would also be eager to face either Brook or Spence Jr.
"The great part about my weight class is just that we have a lot of options," he said. "There are a lot of good fights out there for me.
"My number one fight on my mind is the rematch with Keith Thurman, but if that is not going to happen I would love to fight the winner of Kell Brook and Errol Spence."
