George Groves' former trainer Adam Booth believes he will get even better after finally winning a world title.
Booth was sat ringside at Bramall Lane on Saturday night to see his old charge stop Fedor Chudinov in the sixth round to claim the vacant WBA 'super' super-middleweight title.
The pair split shortly before Groves' first world title attempt against Carl Froch four-and-a-half years ago and although they aren't on speaking terms, the trainer was not only "pleased" by the outcome but expects the 29-year-old to move on to bigger and better things.
"I was actually pleased for him, I really was," Booth exclusively told Sky Sports.
"There's no satisfaction in it for me but I was happy because I know how much this will mean to him.
"He's achieved his lifelong ambition and having done that, it will take a massive weight off his shoulders.
"Psychologically having won that world title, he's now back in a growth period and I think he will be better than he was tonight because he knew it was all on the line.
"It's a bit like losing an FA Cup semi-final. You don't mind losing the final but not the semi and George had to avoid losing, so he carried more into the ring than ever."
Booth will be back in world title action in two weeks time when the talented 25-year-old Ryan Burnett challenges IBF bantamweight champion, Lee Haskins, live on Sky Sports.
