Chest infection rules British champ out of McDermott defence

Wayne Elcock has been forced to withdraw from his next British title defence. The domestic middleweight king was due to defend against undefeated Darren McDermott on Friday, April 25th, but has been struck down with a severe chest infection. It has left the champion with no alternative to pull out of the fight, which was due to be his first on the comeback trail following his world title loss to Arthur Abraham. "I am totally gutted to be out of this fight as until now training was going to plan and I felt absolutely fantastic," he said. "After the disappointment of my last fight against Arthur Abraham I wanted to put on a dazzling display for my fans and I was more than confident that I would retain my British Middleweight title, now I have to wait for my chance in the coming months." The fight was due to pit two Midlands men against each other in front of a bumper crowd at the Aston Events Centre. Hennessy Sports, who were putting on the show in assocation with GoldenPalace.com, have confirmed they are now looking for a new date and venue for the fight.
