Gervonta Davis says that he is ready for mentor Floyd Mayweather “to pass on the torch” so he can become the next star in boxing.
The IBF super-featherweight world champion Davis (18-0-KO17) will defend his title against Francisco Fonseca this weekend on the undercard to Mayweather's much-anticipated showdown with Conor McGregor, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The 22-year-old southpaw, who will act as chief support to the main event in Las Vegas, has vowed to shine on the big stage and continue his journey to the top.
Speaking at Thursday's press conference, 'Tank' said: "I thank God for this opportunity, I thank Mayweather promotions, Al Haymon and my opponent for taking this fight at late notice.
"Saturday, I will put on a great performance. I am ready take over the sport, Floyd has told me that he is passing me on the torch.
"Camp has been great and this is a great fight for the fans. I am a new star in the sport.
"I am here to put on a great show and give the fans and media what they're looking for, I'm excited - the hard work is done.
"Make sure you all tune in, it will be an epic fight, thank you."
