In the end it was the result we all expected, but Floyd Mayweather had to go to work for his record 50th win in the ring.
Conor McGregor had been written off by many a judge as a novice and potential one-round wonder after crossing codes from MMA to take on boxing's self-proclaimed Best Ever.
What we saw was Mayweather drawn into a proper scrap for the first time in recent memory as McGregor started well and stayed in there until the 10th round.
Boxing nous told ultimately, of course, and Mayweather's 50-0 retiring record puts him out there on his own among the sport's great world champions.
But McGregor's efforts were enough to have ring royalty lining up in admiration as the likes of Lennox Lewis, George Foreman and Manny Pacquiao all posted their approval on social media.
