Mexican southpaw records victory number 35

WBC champion Cristian Mijares has taken a split decision victory over WBA title holder Alexander Munoz in the first super flyweight unification bout in more than 10 years. Mexican southpaw Mijares hit his Venezuelan opponent with right leads early and, as the fight wore on, the taller man also rocked Munoz with some powerful left hooks. Two such shots from Mijares almost put Munoz down put in the eighth round, with the bell coming to the latter's rescue. The 26-year-old Mijares went on the attack again in the 10th and wobbled Munoz, who gamely fought back with a combination of left jabs and right hooks. However, in the 11th, a tiring Munoz walked into yet another left hook and Mijares also ended a scrappy final round with a flurry. The win means that Mijares has improved his record to 35 wins, 14 by knockout, against three defeats and two draws. His 29-year-old opponent slipped to his third loss against 32 wins, 27 by KO.
