Lee Meager says there will be no room for friendship when he and his mate John Murray meet for the British Lightweight title.
No room for friendship when stablemates scrap it out
Lee Meager says there will be no room for sentiment when he takes on John Murray.
The former sparring partners meet for the vacant British Lightweight title at Wigan's Robin Park on Friday, July 11.
The two Manchester men are not only Hennessy Sports stablemates but friends - and have been in the ring together for sessions that have been described as explosive.
But Meager says that will count for nothing come fight night.
"Me and John might be good mates and we know each other well after the sparring sessions, but it will be strictly business on the night," said Meager.
"I know what to expect from John in a way because we have sparred with each other, but I'm not taking those sparring sessions too seriously.
Tough fight
"Sparring is nothing like the real thing where you are a different weight and wear different gloves. So I'm treating those sparring sessions with a pinch of salt.
"But I'm expecting a tough fight and I know he is a good hooker."
Meager is looking to recapture the title he lost to Jon Thaxton, who has vacated the belt up for grabs.
He has since stopped Laszlo Komjathi and drawn with Jose Alberto Gonzalez over rounds but expects to be back to his best when he meets Murray, who has himself been busy calling out Amir Khan.
"The Thaxton defeat took a while to get over but this is a great opportunity for me to make something of my career."
