No room for sentiment as Manchester duo fight for lightweight title

Lee Meager is ready to put his personal admiration aside as he prepares to fight fellow Mancunian John Murray for the vacant British lightweight title. Meager and Murray clash at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan on Friday night in what promoter Mich Hennessey predicts could be 'one of the domestic fights of the year' live on Sky Sports 1. As well as the incentive of claiming the British title, Meager revealed that there is added spice to the fight due to the conflicting football allegiances of both boxers. "I think he is from Gorton which is a Man City area and I'm from Salford which is a (Manchester) United area so it's good banter between us," Meagre told Sky Sports News.

Dangerous

"He's a good kid and that but it's about business. "I'm looking forward to it, it's going to be a great fight. He comes forward, I come forward so it has all the makings of the fight of the year." Murray, 23, is also relishing the contest but is well aware he must be on top of his game if he is to have any chance of defeating his dangerous opponent. "This is what I have dreamed about fighting for and it's finally here so everything is on the line now and I am looking forward to it," he said. "I know Lee is a livewire and I know he is here to win and I know he has been training like a demon as well so it's down to me now to step up and be at my best because if I don't Lee will knock me out."
