Hitman returns to the MGM Grand for Malignaggi match-up

Ricky Hatton's world title showdown with Paulie Malignaggi will take place in Las Vegas. Golden Boy Promotions have confirmed that the Hitman will challenge for his old IBF light-welterweight belt at the MGM Grand, on Saturday, November 22. Hatton has always dreamed of topping the bill at Madison Square Garden, New York - where Malignaggi comes from - but will now return to the scene of his only defeat, at the hands of Floyd Mayweather. It will be his fifth fight in the United States and the fourth time he has boxed in Vegas, where he has impressed the American boxing public, as well as his own army of travelling fans. "I am looking forward to returning to America, fighting again at the MGM Grand and challenging Malignaggi for his title," he said.

Exciting

"Las Vegas is like a second home to me. The fans treat me like gold, and I promise them another exciting value for money fight." An estimated 35,000 Brits made the trip for the Mayweather fight but less than 4,000 were able to get tickets for the arena, with the rest forced to watch on close-circuit television or American TV. Only the MGM Grand or the Thomas and Mack Center were considered big enough to cope with the invasion and this time, Hatton's father and business manager Ray, has made sure the ticket allocation is much greater. "This time they've basically said 'you can have the lion's share' and this time we can have, within reason, what we want, whereas last time we got 3,900," he told skysports.com in July. "That's done and dusted. It's not happening again, that was part of the deal. You can get caught out once, but not twice." It will be Hatton's first fight since splitting with trainer Billy Graham after 11 years and will also be for the IBO light-welterweight title he owns.
