Amir Khan admits he will face a risky fight when he takes on unbeaten Colombian Breidis Prescott on Saturday night, but says it's the type of fight he needs to push him on towards a world title.
As the two men came face-to-face for the first time in Manchester ahead of the live
Sky Box Office clash, Khan admitted that Prescott holds the physical aces in being bigger and having a longer reach.
Commonwealth lightweight champion Khan admits that facing the big-hitting Prescott, who has won all of his 19 fights with 17 knockouts, is a risk, but one he needs to take.
After being floored twice Khan still has doubts about his chin, but coming through a test against a big puncher in Prescott will spur him on towards his dream of a world title.
Risky
"Its very risky," Khan said at his pre-fight press conference on
Sky Sports News.
"It's a big step for me fighting an opponent with a big knockout percentage, he's undefeated just like myself and it's a 50-50 fight.
"It's going to be a tough fight on the night and the best man's going to win. I want to be a world champion at a young age so these are the fights I need.
"He's going to be strong - he's got the height advantage, he's got the reach advantage, but I've done my homework and I know how to deal with that.
"I've got my gameplan and I'm going to stick to that.
"He may have a good record but who has he fought? He's never fought anyone like Amir Khan."
Training
Khan has been training with a new trainer, Cuban Jorge Rubio, and he says he has been getting back to basics in the gym.
"It's been like a switch back to the amateur days, back to basics, with a lot of speed work. Everything's gone so well I feel strong and fit and I've made the weight easier."
Prescott, 25, has vowed to knock Khan out in four rounds at the MEN in Manchester on Saturday and many people expect Khan to have by far his toughest examination to date.
"I just want to say congratulations to Amir Khan," said Prescott. "But I think I'm prepared to beat him, hopefully in four rounds, and let's see how it goes."
Khan though says that the style of the South American is tailor made for his fast punching ability.
"He's made for my style," said Khan.
"It's going to be a tough fight but I know I'm the better fighter, I'm going to just go in their and do what I normally do and that's win.
"Every fight's big fight for me, as everyone who comes into the ring with me is trying to make a name for themselves by beating Amir Khan but I'm ready for that."
