Cuban relieved of his duties after just one fight with Bolton boxer

Amir Khan has fired trainer Jorge Rubio after the pair had worked together for just one fight. The Cuban came in as something of a surprise replacement for Salford trainer Oliver Harrison, who was sacked early this year. However, Rubio was in the corner to witness Khan lose his perfect professional record in just 54 seconds against Bredis Prescott. It was revealed afterwards that the Miami-based trainer had suggested the unbeaten Colombian as a suitable opponent, though promoter Frank Warren later took full responsibility for the decision. Although Khan stated in the aftermath of the shock defeat that he would stick with Rubio, a spokesman for Warren's Sports Network has confirmed: "Jorge has been relieved of his duties." Khan's camp will now begin the search for a replacement for Rubio and are due to make a statement next week.
