WBC president retains tight grip on presidency
The World Boxing Council has re-elected president Jose Sulaiman to another four-year term at their annual convention in Chengdu, China.
The Mexican has held the reins at arguably the most respected sanctioning bodies since 1975 and has received the backing of members despite being into his 78th year.
"I accept this election and I appreciate your trust in me," he told the convention.
"I have eternal gratitute and I ask you to please keep working together to make our mission in the WBC get stronger and stronger in the world."
The great and the good are in China for the week and promoter Don King, who is a good friend of Sulaiman and is closely linked with the WBC, is hoping to tap into the huge Chinese market as it becomes more Westernised.
The country picked up two Olympic gold medals in Beijing earlier this year and the sport's increasing popularity has not been lost on the master of spin.
"China has given me the greatest reception of any country I've ever been to in my life," said the legendary King. "It won olympic medals in categories it had never done before.
"This shows dedication and commitment, so hopefully I can be as good as they are. Anything can happen, now China is opening its doors to the world."
Even British promoter Frank Maloney wants a piece of the action, adding: "I've never been to China before, but if this is communism, it seems to be working well.
"It's really up to the Chinese Government. If they want it to work, they'll insist it works. But do they want professional boxing? It may be against what they call true communism, like in Cuba.
"If they do want professional boxing to work, they've certainly got a massive market, and all of us promoters will be trying to gatecrash in, because it'll be a market that we'll all be looking at."
