Ricky Hatton has shot down rumours about his weight.
Bemused Hitman bang on target to make 140lbs
Ricky Hatton has shot down rumours he is struggling to make weight.
The Hitman says rumours were rife in New York over the weekend that he would have to pull out of his Las Vegas showdown with Paulie Malignaggi, live on
Sky Box Office.
With the boxing world assembled for Joe Calzaghe's fight with Roy Jones Jnr, there were suggestions that Hatton was not going to make the 140lbs light-welterweight limit.
But Hatton says he is bang on schedule.
"It always amazes where rumours start and then how they spread," Hatton told his
skysports.com Fight Diary.
"I had a good laugh when I got a phone call asking me if my fight is still on.
"It seems that somebody had been spreading rumours in New York over the weekend that my fight was off due to me being unable to make weight.
"For the record I am well on track, 147lbs with two weeks to go. No problem."
Hatton will be hoping to make it a British double in the States after watching Calzaghe outclass Jones Jnr from his Las Vegas headquarters.
And he was quick to offer his congratulations to the Welshman - even if he had called the fight beforehand.
"Joe had a great fight and well done to him," said Hatton. "I had the fight going the way I thought it would.
"I thought Joe would be too fast for Roy."
