Hatton ready to follow in his brother's footsteps

Matthew Hatton says he will be starting over again in Las Vegas this weekend. Magic begins a new chapter in his career when he goes in against Ben Tackie on the undercard of big brother Ricky's light-welterweight clash with Paulie Malignaggi. Hatton Jnr was the first to split from former trainer Billy Graham and team up with Lee Beard, after complaining he was overlooked in the run-up to his Commonwealth welterweight title loss to Craig Watson in June. This time though, he says he has had the perfect build-up and is ready for that will be a major step up in class. "Training has been superb, I'm in the best shape of my life," he said. "Training has gone very well, with my new trainer Lee Beard - also with a little help from Floyd Mayweather, which I am very grateful for.

Future

"I am a far better fighter than before. I'm improving all the time, I know I have had problems previously in my career, but that problem has gone now. "I'm really looking forward to the future, starting with a big win on Saturday night." If Hatton does win through it will go down as by far the biggest scalp of his career. Tackie may have lost his last four fights, but in doing so took explosive WBO light-welterweight champion Kendall Holt the full 10 rounds. And he has not only been in with Ricky Hatton and lasted the distance, but has also taken former pound-for-pound king Kostya Tszyu and Sharmba Mitchell. "Ben Tackie has been campaigning at world class for years now," said Hatton. "I'm a boxing fan and I've seen him fight the best light-welterweights in the world, like Kostya Tszyu and my brother Ricky and it is a big step up for me in class."
