Welshman knows little about new opponent, but vows to come out swinging

A frustrated Enzo Maccarinelli says he will punch his way back into the spotlight by taking out Francisco Alvarez, despite knowing nothing about his last-minute opponent on Saturday. Big-punching Welshman Maccarinelli is part of Sky Box Office's Judgement Night card as he fights for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title at London's Excel Arena. Swansea fighter Maccarinelli was due to face Johnathon Banks only for an ankle injury to rule him out, and arch rival Herbie Hide was then lined-up in what would have been a real grudge match. Hide failed to take up the offer though, and unheralded Puerto Rican Alvarez has stepped in at the last minute after being offered the chance of a lifetime.

Comeback

Maccarinelli is on the prowl after suffering his second loss in 30 fights, when he was knocked out by David Haye, and he is now desperate to set the record straight. "I lost to Haye and that happens in boxing. I didn't get it right and I got punished. What am I going to do, cry about it?" he said. "I've had to deal with it. People are doubting me now and putting my back against the wall, but I want to show that I've still got it. "People want to know if I'm gun-shy now, but I'm going to take control of the centre of the ring and throw bombs from the start. "I like proving people wrong. I had a dream to unify the division before I fought Haye, and it's the same now. "It's a long time since I fought and I've been angry for nine months now."
Knowledge
Maccarinelli admits he knows nothing about his opponent Alvarez, who has 11 wins from 12 fights, and nine of them via knockout. "I was happy when I heard it was Herbie Hide because he's the only man I really can't stand in boxing," said Maccarinelli. "He's been saying a lot of things about me so it would have been nice to shut his mouth up. But he didn't want it."
