WBC examining reports 'Sugar' used performance-enhancing drugs

The World Boxing Council is probing reports that Shane Mosley has testified to taking performance-enhancing drugs in the lead-up to his 2003 title bout against Oscar De La Hoya. 'Sugar' Shane went on to win the WBC and WBA light middleweight belts on that night, but he later admitted in front of a grand jury that he unwittingly used banned substances as part of his training regime. President Jose Sulaiman has therefore ordered the WBC's legal counsel to investigate and present their findings to the Council's 29-member board of governors. "Thus far the WBC has seen only press reports, and must therefore investigate any available evidence and review it, in terms of the WBC rules and regulations' anti-doping provisions," said Robert Lenhardt, an attorney for the WBC. Mosley is set to fight current WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito on January 24 in Los Angeles but it is not yet clear what impact the investigations could have on the bout.
