Salford fighter hopes victory could lead to a world title shot

Jamie Moore hopes his fight against Michele Piccirillo could put him on the world stage. The 30-year-old southpaw takes on the Italian in March for the vacant European light-middleweight crown - and a win could lead him to a WBC title shot by the end of the year. Moore knows beating the 38-year-old will enhance his title credentials and has already eyed up the winner of Ricardo Mayorga and Alfredo Angulo as his next fight.

Number one

He said: "We've got to make sure we do a number on Piccirillo and leave nothing to chance. It will make the last three years of frustration all worthwhile. "The European title would open massive doors for me." Moore has struggled with injuries in the past, however the Salford-born fighter hopes that his fitness fear are now behind him. "I'm 30 now, I've had a few injury problems which have held me back and I need to get a shift on," he said. "The division is not in the healthiest of states so I believe I can win a world title and become the number one in the division within 18 months-two years time." Moore has a record of 30-3 compared to Piccirillo's 50-4 and the fight takes place on March 6 in Wigan.
