Commonwealth super-featherweight champion Ricky Burns and challenger Michael Gomez went head-to-head as they met to publicise their fight on March 27 in Glasgow.
The two boxers had to be separated as they posed for photographs outside a Glasgow hotel following the press conference.
Earlier, the 31-year-old Gomez said: "All I'm thinking about is beating Ricky Burns and I will beat him.
"I'm straightforward. If I don't like you I come to your face and tell you I don't like you.
"Ricky was in the papers saying he is going to finish my career but then he comes to my face, is dead nice and shakes my hand.
"We will see on the night. I will beat Ricky Burns."
Then turning to the Coatbridge fighter, he snarled: "I will take you to school pal."
Burns countered: "The only thing you will be walking away with is your pay cheque."
Gomez snapped back: "Ricky has said I was here for my last pay-day.
"If I was here for my last pay-day then I would have taken the fight with Alex Arthur that I was offered.
"Alex and I will definitely happen but I can't disrespect Ricky.
"He showed in his last fight that he can punch if you stand off him.
Concentrate
"I have to concentrate on this fight first but the fight with Alex Arthur is too big a fight not to happen again.
"It will happen, but first things first."
Burns, 25, was reluctant to get into a slanging match with Gomez or get involved later, when the Englishman was shoving his face into his for the benefit of the cameras.
"I don't really get tied up with all this," he said. "Michael is Michael and that's just the way he is.
"I'm in this for the love of the sport, not to bad-mouth people.
"Michael has been bad-mouthing me so I will give him a chance and we will see come fight night who is going to get shut up.
"No disrespect to Michael Gomez, he is always a danger and he can punch so I am going into this fight 100% focused.
"If I go in to this fight with any doubts and there is an upset, I'm back down the waiting list again for another title and I can't afford that."
Gomez admits defeat could signal an end to his colourful career.
"I've always wanted the Commonwealth title, this is is my last chance and I am going to take it," he said.
"Ricky is young enough to come again and move up a weight but this is my last chance.
"If I get beat there is nowhere to go but that will not happen. I am going to become Commonwealth champion, trust me."
