Hard-hitting Mancunian batters Pryce in two

Matthew Hall battered his way to the Commonwealth light-middleweight crown. The Mancunian delighted the gathering numbers at the MEN Arena by flooring champion Bradley Pryce three times in the second round before the fight was called to a halt. It means Hall, 24, now has a belt to go with his burgeoning reputation. The fight, kicking off the major action night that will end with Amir Khan and Marco Antonio Barrera, was always going to be explosive while it lasted, and so it proved. Hall's punching power was evident midway through the second round when a short right proved too much for the champion, who went down for the first time. Pryce beat the count and tried to fight fire with fire, but was in trouble and soon enough a crisp left hook sent him over again. A cut above his left eye also drew worried glances from Enzo Maccarinelli in his corner and referee Ian-John Lewis, although the man in the middle had more pressing issues. Hall was straight onto his man again and forced him into a corner with ease before another right, on the money, saw Pryce down again, this time heavily and led the referee to step in at the bell.
