Light heavyweight looking forward to his fight in Sunderland

Olympic bronze medallist Tony Jeffries cannot wait to make his home town debut as a professional fighter on May 2. The 24-year-old former Farringdon Community Sports College pupil impressed knocking out Aliaksandr Vayavoda in his professional bow in February and he is now poised for a return to the ring at Crowtree Leisure Centre in Sunderland. His bout will be on the undercard of Ricky Hatton's fight with Manny Pacquiao, which is live on Sky Box Office, and the passionate light heavyweight cannot wait. "The atmosphere is going to be amazing," Jeffries said. "As a world-class amateur fighter I have fought all around the world, but never in front of my home town fans; my own people. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to let them come and see me box here. "To fight in front of a thousand Mackems is going to be great. It will be the biggest night of boxing Sunderland has ever seen. "It's brilliant for the North East and keeps us on the map." Promoter Frank Maloney has even bigger hopes for Jeffries' future, with a bout at Sunderland FC lined up further down the line. "Yesterday we met with the executives at The Stadium of Light," Maloney said. "They assured me we could get 62,000 people in there, so that is our aim - to break some records for a fight later, in Tony's career."
