Light heavyweight opts to part ways with trainer Gallagher

Olympic bronze medallist Tony Jeffries' preparations for his second professional bout have been disrupted by the light heavyweight's decision to switch trainers. Joe Gallagher was in the corner as the 24-year-old crushed Aliksander Vayavoda with a first-round knockout in his professional debut. But, as he concludes his training for his second pro bout on the undercard of Ricky Hatton versus Manny Pacquiao in May 2, the Sunderland star has now teamed up with Bobby Rimmer instead. "Joe Gallagher is a great trainer but he has a lot of fighters at the gym, including a thriving amateur section. I felt I could get the one-on-one time I needed with Bobby," Jeffries told BritishBoxing.net. ""It is not a great time to make a switch as I am fighting in my home town in three weeks, but I needed to make the decision. I will work with Bobby for this fight, and see how things go from there. "I am loving it so far, the gym is great and I've been doing lots of work with Bobby. The homecoming fight sold out straight away, and it is a big thing for me. I will be at my best for that fight and will then make a [long-term] decision over the training side of things. "I want to wish Joe and all the lads at the gym the best of luck for the future. I will be looking out for them in future, and it has all been done on the best of terms, there is no bad feeling between any of us. I rate Joe very highly as a trainer."
