Canadian claims light-heavyweight title in Montreal

Carl Froch's former foe Jean Pascal claimed the WBC light-heavyweight title on Friday night, with victory over Adrian Diaconu. Pascal, who lost on points to Froch in a bout for the vacant WBC super-middleweight title widely regarded as one of the best fights of last year, moved up to the light-heavyweight division in Montreal. He did not disappoint, knocking down his fellow Quebec-based fighter in the fifth round before going on to take a unanimous decision on the scorecards. Judge Maximo de Luca scored it 115-112, while John Keane had it 116-112 and Jack Woodburn had it 116-111. Romanian-born Diaconu, making his first defence of the title, fell to 26-1 as a result, while Pascal improved to 23-1.
