Jones still too quick for Lacy with comprehensive victory

Veteran Roy Jones Jr took Jeff Lacy apart during a tenth round stoppage of his fellow American in Mississippi. Jones was toying with Lacy and interacting with the crowd in Biloxi during the fight, as he completely overwhelmed his opponent to win the NABO light heavyweight championship. The 40-year-old connected with a left hook in the third round to cut Lacy's right eye, and both of his eyes had swollen by the seventh. Lacy tried to pin Jones on the ropes, but despite being the older man by eight years Jones was the quicker and after 10 rounds Lacy had had enough and did not emerge for the 11th round. The former eight-time world champion Jones was so in control that he was shouting out at the crowd inside the Mississippi Coast Coliseum before unloading some lightning combinations.

Speed

"My hands are still as fast as ever," said Jones. "I've got the quickest speed in the game. "I've got to give the crowd what they want. The crowd asked for it so I gave them what they wanted. I still love what I do. "(Lacy) could do whatever he wanted to do. I trained for everything. If that's the kind of fight he wanted, that's what I'll give them." It was Jones' second victory after returning from his loss against Joe Calzaghe last year, while Lacy has not been the same since he was also dismantled by the Welshman back in 2004. Jones says he will now fight in Australia next in November, to challenge Danny Green for the IBO cruiserweight title. "I'm coming to Australia baby. You better get ready. G'day mate," Jones said. "I've got to go Down Under and get prepared and be in the best shape for him. "He's strong and he's going to be coming at you. I'm looking forward to going Down Under and taking Danny Green 'down under'."
