Plenty left for Roy but Lacy has some thinking to do, says Wayne

Roy Jones Jnr and Jeff Lacy headlined 'Hook City' from Biloxi, Mississippi, this past weekend. However, the fight was televised on pay-per-view which was not a popular move with the fans. We all know that neither fighter are what they once were and the question that hung over this fight was if Jones was living off his former pound-for-pound name simply to make money. Since Jones was also the promoter of the fight, he got to choose where the fight took place and to place it on PPV. Jones was and always will be a legend of the sport whereas Lacy will be remembered as the young guy who was supposed to be a big star but ran into Joe Calzaghe along the way. Since that fight, Lacy hasn't been the same. Known for left hook, Lacy doesn't seem to use it as much anymore since he had surgery on his rotator cuff following his fight with Vitali Tsypko. The start of the bout was held back for about 30 minutes when neither camp could agree on the choice of gloves - something that should have been decided before fight night.

Dominated

But glove choice wasn't a factor in this fight as it was all Jones. He dominated Lacy throughout and even more in the lead up to Lacy's corner stopping the fight after 10 rounds. Jones beat Lacy to the punch every time. His speed and reflexes may not be the same but against a slower man he was still much quicker and really had no need to be concerned about an upset. After three bad losses in a row, twice to Antonio Tarver and once to Glen Johnson, Jones picked perfect opponents to get back in the win column. He fought three times against the right guys at the right time, Felix Trinidad being one of them. Then he lost easily to Calzaghe although he did put him on the canvas in the first round.
Thinking
He came back from that fight with a win over Omar Sheika in March which set him up for this fight with Lacy. Jones may not be the fighter he once was but his brain seems to work very well when it comes to promoting himself. Lacy, meanwhile, has a lot of thinking to do following this defeat. Jones is scheduled to fight Danny Green - who also fought on this card - in Australia in November. He also talked like he was now back in the driver's seat of where, when and who he could fight next. He said the Klitschko's would be on his list with a move back up to heavyweight. The Green fight would be at cruiserweight. Against bigger guys he will be quicker but, as the Tarver and Johnson fights showed, if he gets hit he will go to sleep. The old Roy hardly ever got hit clean but when you depend on your reflexes and they are not there anymore, you'd better have a good chin. Jones doesn't! Some observers asked why Jones is still fighting. Well, he loves to fight so why not?
