Former IBO and WBF featherweight champion Michael Brodie says he is targeting world titles again.
Returning veteran sets sights high after long absence
Former IBO featherweight champion Michael Brodie says he is targeting world titles again after four years out of the ring.
The 35-year-old has not fought since his knockout defeat in the WBO title clash against Scott Harrison in 2005 and he admits he had since been enjoying a party lifestyle.
However, he is now back in shape and, ahead of his return to action against Mark Alexander at Hatton Promotions' Boys Are Back In Town event at Manchester's Velodrome on Friday, he feels his chances of success are as strong as ever.
"I feel brand new and I can't wait to get back in the ring," he told the
Manchester Evening News.
"I've had four years' break and it's time to get back. It is a long time, but I've had time to think about what I want to do and I believe this is what I'm good at and I'll get back to the top.
"I partied, went away on holidays and blew up to 14st. I put loads of weight on, but it shows what you can do with determination. I've dropped three or four stone in six months."
Ambition
He added: "When I look back, all my fights were big fights, hard fights.
"I look around there's no one really out there who can take what I give. I do believe I can get back to the top, definitely.
"Nothing will stop me. I'm not just looking at British titles - I want world titles."
