Veteran has to climb off the canvas to bag comeback win

Michael Brodie's low-key return to the ring after a four-year hiatus proved anything but as he climbed off the canvas to stop London's Mark Alexander. Brodie, who made his name in two wars with Injin Chi for the WBC featherweight title, once again showed the heart of a lion to come back from two knockdowns to floor his opponent in the fourth round. The 35-year-old went down under a flurry of blows in the opening round of the six-rounder in Manchester, and suffered a cut above the left eye in the second as Alexander continued to make his mark. Another big body shot in the third left Brodie reeling but once again he beat the count, and Alexander was left to rue not finishing the job there and then. A big right hand floored the Londoner in the next round and although he got to his feet the referee called it off. The manner of the victory must be a worry to Brodie and Hatton Promotions, and the proud fighter's punch resistance may no longer be there after such a long absence, and bearing in mind the punishing fights before it.
