South American bounces back from his WBC welterweight defeat

Juan Urango survived a sixth-round knockdown to retain his International Boxing Federation (IBF) light-welterweight title against Randall Bailey on Friday night. The Colombian-born fighter, who lost his IBF crown to Ricky Hatton in 2007 but regained the vacated belt against Herman Ngoudjo in January, barely beat the count after hitting the canvas. But Urango, who lost a WBC welterweight title challenge against Andre Berto in May, weathered the storm and went on to floor the American veteran with a left to the head in the ninth. Bailey climbed back to his feet only to be knocked down again and, though he made it to the 10th round, he was soon sent crashing down again. And his corner threw in the towel a round later to hand Urango victory and improve his record to 22-2-1 (17 KOs).
