Canadian keeps title with one-sided victory over Italian
Jean Pascal retained his WBC light heavyweight title with a 10th round stoppage of Silvio Branco in Montreal.
The Canadian fighter floored his Italian opponent in the seventh round and sent him to the canvas twice more in the tenth.
As a result of the one-sided contest at the Bell Centre arena, Branco's corner then threw in the towel to end the punishment for their veteran.
Pascal, whose only loss came in the thrilling super-middleweight title fight with Carl Froch last year, improved to 24-1.
"I know I said I wanted an early knockout, but the fight went exactly to plan," Pascal told the
Montreal Gazette.
Real plan
"The real plan was to use the early rounds to find my range and then once I felt comfortable to start moving in.
"It went exactly like that. I always knew the end would come in the ninth or 10th round."
Pascal is now hoping to earn a rematch with Adrian Diaconu, whom Pascal won the title off with a 12-round win in June.
Branco fell to 59-10-2 with the defeat, which saw him take some punishment, including a cut near his right eye in the third round.
Branco was also on the floor at the end of the fourth but claimed he was pushed by Pascal - who was warned by the referee in the seventh for clinching.
