Thai boxer becomes new WBA super-bantamweight champion

Thai boxer Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym claimed the WBA super-bantamweight title after knocking out Bernard Dunne in the third round of their fight in Dublin. Dunne was knocked down three times before the referee stepped in and stopped the contest as blood flowed from the Irishman's nose. The 29-year-old Dunne had captured the WBA belt in March when he knocked out Ricardo Cordoba at the O2 Arena. But Poonsawat, who claimed his first professional victory outside of Thailand, was far too strong for the home town favourite. Before the fight, he predicted he would score a knockout victory within the first seven rounds. On the undercard, Tyson Fury laboured to a six-round points decision over journeyman Tomas Mrazek just two weeks after his controversial victory over John McDermott. Fury, now 9-0, weighed a stone heavier than prior to the McDermott fight and was awarded a 60-57 decision over the Pole.
