Shane Mosley has vowed to clean up the welterweight division as he prepares to take on the undefeated Andre Berto in the New Year.
The WBA 'super champion' will take on the WBC title holder on January 30 after failing to secure fights with Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and a rematch with Miguel Cotto.
Pacquiao secured a fabulous victory over Cotto on Saturday night and now appears on a collision course with Mayweather in what could be the biggest box office event in history.
A second fight with Cotto is now less appealing and leaves Berto and South African IBF belt holder Isaac Hlatshwayo for 'Sugar Shane' to ponder, with the 25-0 Floridian easily the better option in terms of ticket sales.
Berto may be 12 years Mosley's junior but the wily veteran, who will have been out of the ring for just over 12 months come fight night, believes his experience will be crucial to the outcome.
"I am so excited to be back in the ring again," he said. "It's going to be a tremendous bout.
"I've forgotten more about the fight game than he knows and the world will see that. Andre Berto is a good fighter but he's bitten off more than he can chew.
"I was trying to get the big fights, I was trying to get the fans what they wanted. But these (other) guys don't want to fight me because I am the most gifted. I am the best.
"It's alright. I love boxing. I give myself about three or four more years and whatever happens in that time span, hopefully I should be able to wrap up the division."
Berto made a successful third defence of his title with a unanimous points victory over Juan Urango in May and is delighted to finally enter the ring against a marquee fighter.
"This is the fight I have waited my whole career for and now it is finally a reality," he said.
