Pt IX - Media day and a look behind closed doors

Monday, November 30

Today was always going to be the longest in the preparation for this fight, because it was media day. Even so, we were back to the usual 5.30am start time for the run and then back home for a quick sleep before arriving at the gym to see the world's media already there! It was a bit of a frenzy to be honest! There were TV crews, radio crews and members of the press there, which just shows the level of interest that is building around this fight. It wasn't just the British media either, we did some stuff with CCN, which will go out worldwide. Everyone was doing interviews, Freddie, Alex, my dad Shah and we did live pieces with Craig Slater from Sky Sports News. It was just a question of squeezing them in between stretching and working out. We did a workout in the ring for the cameras, hit the mitts with Freddie, and although some boxers usually go through the motions in these situations, this was a full-on sesssion. I don't want to lose any sharpness in this last week, because I feel so good. You might have seen us on Sky Sports News, and you might have seen them pop in on us back at the house where me, Freddie and Alex are staying - and before you ask, we didn't have to tidy up first! What you saw was how it is. We are all fairly tidy. The long day ended about 7.30pm and then I popped in to see my mum, who is back from Pakistan. I am close to my family and it was great to see mum, but I have to be honest and say I took a bit of washing back as well, just towels and things. It's not something I'd normally do, but we just haven't had the time this week. Honest, mum!
