Jones stopped in the first round of IBO title challenge
Roy Jones Jnr's career has been left in tatters after he was stopped by IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green in the first round in Sydney.
Referee Howard Foster stepped in to call a halt to the contest 2:02 into the opening round, with Jones having been floored and then pinned against the ropes by a series of heavy shots from Green.
Jones had been attempting to become the first boxer to hold world titles in every division from middleweight to heavyweight.
However the eight-time world champion hit the canvas from a well-timed right from Green, who was making his first defence of the title.
The 40-year-old got to his feet, but there was no escape from the Australian, who let fly with a flurry of blows before Foster intervened.
Hurt
Green, who won the title with a fifth-round TKO of Argentina's Julio Cesar Dominguez in August, becomes only the third man to stop Jones in 60 fights.
And the 36-year-old was almost apologetic at beating one of his boxing idols - with the defeat likely to signal the end of Jones' career.
"He's one of the greatest fighters of all time and the opportunity to fight him in Australia, thanks Roy Jones Jnr," Green said.
"I almost feel bad doing that, that almost most hurt me to do that to someone whom I aspire to look up to as a professional fighter inside and outside the ring.
"He's a bloody legend."
Jones, who had been tipped to fight Bernard Hopkins in 2010, admitted he had been beaten by the better man.
"We don't make excuses, it was a great performance by Danny," Jones said.
