Sunderland super-middleweight aims for knock-out

Olympic bronze-medallist Tony Jeffries is hoping to stop Andrejs Tolstihs in his tracks when he faces the Latvian on Friday. The Newport Leisure Centre clash, which is on the undercard of the double title fight between British super-flyweight champion Lee Haskins and Commonwealth king Don Broadhurst, will see Sunderland super-middleweight Jeffries battle to maintain his undefeated record. The 24-year-old was taken to the scorecards for the first time in his professional career against Artem Solomko in October, but hopes to secure a more characteristic knock-out victory over Tolstihs. "I was a bit disappointed with my recent points wins and I want to put on a better performance this time around," said Jeffries. "I am planning to have a three-week rest and then get back in action next year and improve even further.

"I had some promotional problems at the start of my career, but I don't think any promoter in the world could do as good a job as Frank Maloney has done." Also in action is fellow Olympic bronze-medallist David Price, who will clash with Dmitirijs Basovs in the fourth professional fight of his career. The 6ft 8in heavyweight from Liverpool will be aiming to preserve his unbeaten record against the Latvian and is hoping to build on his previous displays. "I have been happy with my performances so far as a professional," said Price. "I was taken the distance by Yavor Marinchev in October, but that was the best I have boxed as a professional and I hope to improve on that against Basovs."
