Danny Williams has made the bizarre admission that he is 'shot' as he prepares for his fight with Sam Sexton in February.
Rather than promote himself as being full of confidence ahead of the British and Commonwealth title unification, the 36-year-old admits the game is up after a long and topsy-turvy career.
Having fought on the domestic scene for much of the time, the Londoner got a shot at a washed-up Mike Tyson in 2004, and made the most of his opportunity with a fourth round stoppage win.
That victory earned him a world title fight against Vitali Klitschko later that year, but he was ruthlessly exposed in a bloody eight-round beating.
And he now admits that defeat was the beginning of his decline.
"I don't think I've been the same since the Klitschko defeat," he told
timesonline. "I've just been fighting with heart for too long.
"I'm going to train hard for this fight for one last time. I'm going to do a course to become a bodyguard for celebrities. I've got to get completely away from boxing or I'll just get dragged back in."
Williams' career of valleys and troughs hit a new low in October when he was beaten in the quarter-finals of Sky Sports' Prizefighter by the unknown Carl Baker.
"I'm a shot fighter," he added. "Others have been saying that about me for years, but when I say it people think that I'm joking.
"This will be it, this will be the last time the ring announcer introduces Danny Williams, unless another guy called Danny Williams comes along."
Still the holder of the British title, Williams will enter the ring on February 13 against Commonwealth champion Sexton a huge underdog after the 25-year-old's two recent victories over Martin Rogan.
