British champion has no fear ahead of McDonnell bout

British bantamweight champion Ian Napa is confident he will see off title challenger Jamie McDonnell when they meet on Friday night. Napa, who has recorded 19 wins against seven defeats, will clash with McDonnell at the Brentwood Centre in Essex and if successful will challenge Jerome Arnould for the European belt in France on March 6. Defeat on Friday would end Napa's chances of reclaiming his old European crown, but the Londoner insists he has nothing to fear from McDonnell (12-2-1) after regaining the British title from Gary Davies last year.

Confident

"It does not matter to me, I can fight on the ropes or in the centre of the ring," said Napa. "I don't have to go crazy and throw wild punches, it does not matter to me if I have home advantage or not, a ring is just a ring and there are just two boxers in it." The 31-year-old relinquished his European title to another Frenchman, Malik Bouziane, last year but manager/trainer Brian Lawrence has urged him to focus on the fight ahead. "I have drilled it in to Ian to forget about the March date," said Lawrence. "We are looking at McDonnell as the toughest fight of his career and I know Ian is in for a hard night, but I am confident his class and experience will tell."
