Former champion dreaming of title shot after disposing of Botha

Evander Holyfield is still dreaming of becoming world heavyweight champion for an unprecedented fifth time after beating Frans Botha in Las Vegas. Only 3,127 fans turned up at the Thomas & Mack Center to watch the 47-year-old win the meaningless WBF title with an eighth-round stoppage of an equally faded Botha. In his first fight since losing a controversial points decision to then-WBA champion Nicolai Valuev, the legendary Holyfield was behind on two of the official scorecards before a big right hand floored the 41-year-old South African. And although Botha - like Holyfield a former Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis foe - beat the count, referee Russell Mora stepped in shortly afterwards to spare the 'White Buffalo' further punishment. "This is a new era and I didn't think I'd be in this era," Holyfield said. "I was laughing a little when I fought George Foreman. He was 42 and I was 29. I really didn't want to fight him. "He didn't beat me but he did become world champion again. What I learned from that fight was George said it wasn't about age but that I will give my all. "I've been telling people since 1992 when I lost to Riddick Bowe that I was going to be undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I won two but not the third. "You can't let people tell you what you can do. I fight because I want to."
