British fighter plans KO after doping discussion

Amir Khan plans to make American challenger Paulie Malignaggi pay for his comments during the build-up to their WBA light-welterweight title clash. The two fighters will face-off in Madison Square Garden after a war of words that included Malignaggi suggesting boxers from the Briton's Wild Card Gym could be using performance enhancing drugs. Things escalated at Friday's weigh-in when the fighters clashed during the face-off, needing to be separated by team members as the situation threatened to boil over. The scenes angered promoter Lou DiBella, who said: "This is amateur. The public was not supposed to be here.

Roughed-up

"One more thing like this and I'm pulling (Malignaggi) out of the fight. My guy got roughed up by his people. Some gentleman. Go back to England." The former IBF champion had earlier voiced concerns over Khan's stable-mate Manny Pacquiao, whose reluctance to agree to blood testing scuppered plans for a showdown with Floyd Mayweather. But Khan insists that the changes in his body and fitness are a result of hard work and state-of-the-art training methods. "He was saying I was on drugs as well and how big I had gone, but working with Alex Ariza (Roach's fitness and nutrition expert) and looking at how my body has changed, to be honest I've gone a lot slimmer," the 23-year-old said. "I was a big, big lightweight and I've trimmed down and made my legs bigger. "What people like Paulie Malignaggi don't realise is the work ethic and the training that me and Manny put into our work.

Disrespect

"We work so hard and it just disrespects the trainers because they help us so much, push us 110 per cent and do a wonderful job with us." Malignaggi has looked unconvincing in recent outings, being well beaten by Ricky Hatton and losing a points decision to Juan Diaz within the past two years. And although he avenged the loss to Diaz, Khan believes that Malignaggi is heading for another defeat on Saturday night in New York. He added: "If you look at his last few fights, even the guys that have beaten him, I don't think anyone has beaten him in the style which I'm going to beat him. "I want to do a good job on him. "We've got a gameplan to take into the fight, we'll stick to it and see how he copes with that gameplan. "I'll listen to instructions from Freddie and it's a gameplan to stop him and if it's early, it's early, but I know for a fact it won't go the full distance. "I'm definitely going to win but not only win, win in a good style."
