IBF super-bantamweight champion puts personal problems behind him

Steve Molitor has admitted that issues outside the ring have taken their toll on him but insists he is now completely focused on his boxing career. The Canadian fighter will travel to Britain to defend his IBF super-bantamweight title against Jason Booth on September 11. Although he holds an impressive 32-1 record, his life outside the ring has been filled with ups and downs, with brother and former boxer Jeremy being jailed for second degree murder. Molitor says the family troubles have made him stronger and believes his continued success despite the possible distractions show his determination as a boxer. "It has taken a tremendous toll," the 30-year-old said. "But it's just part of the trials and tribulations of my life. And for me to be able to get through that, and be successful, shows what kind of man I am. "It was a long time ago and my focus is completely on boxing. The past is the past. I survived, I stayed out of trouble, kept training, kept winning and it made me who I am today." Matthew Marsh will face the undefeated Kris Hughes in the chief supporting bout on the card at Rainton Meadows Arena in Sunderland while Jon Lewis Dickinson and British featherweight champion Martin Lindsay will also be in action.
