Klitschko awaits winner of WBC heavyweight eliminator

Vitali Klitschko will make the next defence of his WBC heavyweight title against the winner of Odlanier Solis v Ray Austin. The sanctioning body has ordered the fight to take place within 100 days of the elimination bout in Miami on December 15. Klitschko's promotion company had approached the WBC with a request to make a voluntary defence against former light-heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek. However, that fight will only take place should the Solis-Austin match-up end in a draw or if the winner is injured and unable to face the champion. Cuba-born Solis has an undefeated 16-0 record with 12 by stoppage, and is expected to make light work of veteran Austin, who has just turned 40 and has fought only four times since being knocked out by Wladimir Klitschko in 2007. Vitali himself will be 40 next July and may not fight beyond that, although a unification date with David Haye later in 2011 remains a slim possibility.
