Promoter vows to secure title shot for Lindsay

Martin Lindsay will fulfil a lifetime ambition when he tops the bill at Belfast's historic King's Hall next month. The Northern Ireland boxer has fought there once professionally, but will be headlining when he defends his British featherweight title against Greenock's John Simpson on December 15. The undefeated Lindsay has been struggling to find credible opponents this year but appears all set to end 2010 on a high. "Martin knows that the King's Hall is an iconic venue and here is the chance for it to become his fighting home," said promoter Frank Maloney. "In the 1980s Barry McGuigan made it one of the most famous venues in the world and although Martin was a young boy back then, he knows what the King's Hall means to Irish boxing." Maloney believes that the 28-year-old is ready to step up in class and challenge European champion Sofiane Takoucht. "Takoucht has a mandatory defence coming up and Martin is next in line after that," he added. "We may try and secure a voluntary defence to hurry the process, but whatever happens Martin will get his chance. "He has proved that he is the best in Britain and there isn't exactly a queue of challengers desperate to share the ring. "A fight with Commonwealth champion Stephen Smith has been mooted, and we would be up for that but I am not sure if Smith is looking in our direction."
