Welshman to challenge for British title

Jason Booth will defend his British super-bantamweight title against Jamie Arthur in the New Year. It will be the 33-year-old's first fight since losing out to IBF champion Steve Molitor in Sunderland in September. It will also give Booth the chance to reclaim the Commonwealth belt he never lost in the ring, after Arthur picked up the vacant title with victory over Kris Hughes last time. Arthur became the number one contender after Rendall Munroe backed out of a huge domestic dust-up with good friend Booth - the Leicester binman's team believing it would be a step in the wrong direction after his loss to WBC champ Toshiaki Nishioka. "It's an ideal fight for Jason after local rival Rendall Munroe pulled out," said Booth's manager Jimmy Gill. "It is a good little pay day and keeps him ticking over for his European title shot." Former Prizefighter winner Willie Casey currently holds the European belt but lacks Booth's experience at championship level.
