Amir Khan is no longer vulnerable due to his temperament, says Glenn McCrory

The welterweight would fire back as soon as he was caught

Glenn McCrory was impressed with Amir Khan's display against Devon Alexander but just what was so special - and surprising?

That was an excellent performance from Amir Khan.

It is that temperament I am delighted to see. He no longer reacts; as soon as he used to be hit, he would fire right back, which was never good and that caused most of his earlier problems.

A top-class display, pretty much punch perfect and you've got to say he looked the part.

But there is one aspect I have to give him credit for, something I didn't think he could do and that was to change his temperament.

We all like watching Amir Khan and he always thrilled us with his explosiveness and his excitement but he was also vulnerable.

He would bounce around on his feet, he'd be in and out, and to be honest all over the place, but under Virgil Hunter he has learned to settle down.

Amir is no longer off balance when he gets hit so he can take a punch better and defensively he is much better.

Bouncing

We did see Devon Alexander catch him once or twice but all of a sudden he was thinking about it, and choosing his time to respond, not just react and try and equal it.

Kell Brook says Amir Khan does not deserve a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr and he cannot wait to punish the Bolton fighter.

He has pretty much reinvented himself to become a much, much harder fighter to beat. That vulnerability is no longer there - or wasn't at the MGM Grand.

Amir is now sitting down, not bouncing around and that means he can think. It's just a more mature, sensible and tougher Amir Khan.

Now all we have to do is decide where he goes next. I personally think that the world welterweight championship should be on his radar and that means Kell Brook.

I think we all want to see that and we all want to see Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao and as Kell said, I am not sure Amir deserves to take either of them on straight away.

We all want to see those two fights so maybe, just maybe, they can fight each other, then the winners fight each other.

As for who will win those two, that is for another day. But in the meantime, well done Amir Khan, a great, great night.
