Diving: Tom Daley's coach Jane Figueiredo targets 'next level'

Tom Daley's coach calls for the Great Britain diving star to push for the "next level" ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Daley, 19, took a bronze medal in the 10-metre event at the London 2012 Olympics, adding to his previous golds at the World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealths.

"He already came pretty much as a package deal," said Jane Figueiredo, who coached Russia's Yulia Pakhalina and Vera Ilyina to Olympic victory in 2000.

"My goal is for him to rise to that next level and find what that is. We're always trying to win. We're always trying to be a winner.

"I think he's always had a lot of fun so, although I am fun, probably some technical work will be a focus."

Figueiredo replaced Daley's long-time mentor Andy Banks as his coach in January, with the diver switching his training base from his home town of Plymouth to London at the same time.

Daley made an auspicious start to the season, claiming the bronze at the opening event of the World Series in Beijing, but a tricep injury hampered his performance in the next event in Dubai.

The World Series resumes at the London Aquatics Centre - the scene of Daley's dramatic Olympic medal - next week.

Meanwhile, Figueiredo also praised Daley's professionalism, with a renewed focus on his diet helping him to shine in training.

Daley previously admitted that a love of ice cream and sweets had left him needing to lose more than a stone in weight before the London 2012 Games.

"That's an element of Tom's training that I felt like we could get better and he's really, really jumped on that bandwagon," she said.

"It's shown. He's moving better and we're making our dives easier. That was one of those elements that I felt we needed to improve on."
