England's women signed off with a silver medal in the 4x100m medley as Australia took the gold in a Games record time at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
The medal was Siobhan-Marie O'Connor's sixth of the meet, equalling the record for the most medals won at a single Commonwealth Games, and she played her part as the England team equalled the British record.
Lauren Quigley led off for England in the backstroke but it was it the Canadians who led from Australia at the first changeover. However, Sophie Taylor swam a brilliant breastroke leg to give England the lead heading into the third 100m.
It was O'Connor who took over for the butterfly and despite Emma McKeon pushing her hard, the Bath swimmer maintained a slight advantage for England going into the freestyle.
Fran Halsall took up the mantle but up against 100m freestyle champion Cate Campbell it was always going to be a struggle. Halsall kept pace for the first 50m but in the closing stages Campbell was able to pull away and secure another gold for Australia.
A Games record time of 3:56.23 saw them finish just under a second clear of England (3:57.03) with Canada (4:00.57) taking the bronze.
