Commonwealth Games: Greg Rutherford goes for gold, Nicola Adams back in action inside the ring

Greg Rutherford: Hoping to claim another gold medal when he competes in the long jump final

Greg Rutherford will be hoping to take another giant leap to glory when he competes in the men's long jump final on Wednesday at the Commonwealth Games.

It may not be a 'Super Saturday' for the reigning Olympic champion, but Rutherford will be hoping to make it a 'Wonderful Wednesday' instead when he looks to strike gold at Hampden Park

The 27-year-old comfortably qualified for the final with an initial leap of 8.05m in qualifying, some way short of the mark he produced in London two years ago when he became just the second British man to be crowned Olympic champion in the event.

"You want to do as little as you possibly can so to get it done in the first round I'm over the moon with that," he said. "I'm in pretty good form - held together by tape, but feeling pretty good."

Rutherford will be joined by England team-mates Chris Tomlinson and JJ Jegede, though both men failed to automatically clinch their places in the final.

Adams in action

Another Olympic champion, Nicola Adams, is also back in action in Glasgow. She takes on Sri Lankan Erani De Silva in the last of the quarter-finals of the women's flyweight competition.

Middleweight Savannah Marshall will be bidding to make the last four, having easily beaten Pooja Rani of India on points in the last 16.

Englishmen Scott Fitzgerald, Antony Fowler and Warren Baister will be in action too, while Qais Ashfaq faces a clash with Scotland's Joe Ham for a place in the semi-finals.

There is another Anglo-Scottish clash taking place early in the morning, with the two nations facing each other in a preliminary match in the women's hockey competition.

After winning team gold in both the men's and women's events in gymnastics, there will be further chances for England to add to their medals tally in the all-around finals.

Back on the track, and the men's 400m and high jump finals take place in the evening, along with the closing events in the women's heptathlon. The morning session will see the men's 200m get underway, as well as the 400m hurdles.
