Seth Rance sparked a Windies batting meltdown as New Zealand cruised to a 47-run victory in the opening Twenty20 match in Nelson.
Rance (3-30) took two wickets in successive balls in his second over on debut, including Chris Gayle, to set the tourists on a downward spiral that ended in the 19th over when they were dismissed for 140.
New Zealand posted 187-7 with their total bolstered by 25 off the final over by Mitchell Santner (23no) and Tim Southee (10no) after half-centuries for Colin Munro (53 off 37) and Glenn Phillips (55 off 40).
Windies, the reigning World Twenty20 champions, never looked like reaching their 188-run target after star batsman Gayle fell cheaply for 12 - Southee (3-36) matching Rance by bagging three wickets.
The tourists were 103-8 after 16 overs but a late slog by Jerome Taylor (20) and Ashley Nurse (20no) produced 28 off 12 before Rance completed New Zealand's win by trapping Samuel Badree lbw.
The defeat continues a torrid tour for Windies, who lost the Test series 2-0 and were beaten 3-0 in the one-day international series.
