Joe Root quiz: How much do you know about England's new skipper?
Tuesday 4 July 2017 14:02, UK
Joe Root is England's 80th Test captain, holds a Test batting average in excess of 52, and made his international debut against India in Nagpur in December 2012.
But you knew that, right?
The questions in our quiz are a little tougher, though, so make sure you take it on before Root leads his charges out in a Test match for the first time against South Africa at Lord's on Thursday, live on Sky Sports 2.
Root took over the captaincy aged 26 years and 45 days - a year older than Alastair Cook when he succeeded Andrew Strauss, but more than two years younger than the four English Test captains before that.
Root's opposite number at HQ, Dean Elgar, is equally inexperienced at skippering a Test side - the opener will captain his team for the first time in a full international with Faf du Plessis missing for family reasons.
Watch the first Investec Test between England and South Africa live from 10am on Thursday on Sky Sports 2. You can also catch in-play highlights and live text commentary on our rolling blog.
