Following early morning rain, there was a slight delay to the beginning of play with two overs lost per side and despite bowling into a fierce wind, Tim Murtagh made a fast start with the ball after the home side had opted to bowl first.

The seamer removed opener Phil Salt and Stiaan van Zyl for ducks in consecutive overs before having Harry Finch (13) caught at mid-on to reduce Ben Brown's side to 30-3.

However, wicketkeeper Brown (55) played a pivotal role alongside Wright to propel Sussex's innings, as the pair shared a 174-run sixth-wicket partnership off just 130 balls - with the latter bring up his hundred with a huge six off Toby Roland-Jones.

Wright moved from 101 to 150 in just 18 balls but late flurry of wickets saw the visiting side bowled out for 298 off the final ball of their innings - with Nathan Sowter the pick of the bowlers claiming 4-48.
